In order to prove the falsity of this rumour, we come here today to salute a communist initiative, and a Stalinist one at that.
You know all about the instability in the Middle East today.It is true that since the end of the Crusades and the fall of the Frankish kingdoms of the East, the situation there has never been excellent.
But it has worsened since 1948, with the despoiling of Palestinian land by Israeli colonisation, the exodus of populations that this has provoked, which has destabilised neighbouring states such as Lebanon and Jordan, the incessant wars, terrorism...
It has also given all sorts of criminals the opportunity to find an asylum where they can escape the justice of the countries in which they committed their crimes, under false pretexts of ethno-religious communitarianism, which are perfectly contrary to the most elementary principles of secularism.
Let's just mention the attackers of the procession of Joan of Arc in 1988, in Paris, or the protagonists of the carbon tax swindle...
Yet there was a solution, with a real land, certainly more promising than promised, where no Palestinians had fields of olive trees to despoil or expropriate, where no villages to raze to the ground yet existed...
Let us tell you in a few sentences the history of this wonderful region and of this brilliant idea.
The Jewish Autonomous Oblast (Russian: Еврейская автономная область, Evreïskaïa avtonomnaïa oblast; Yiddish: ייִדישע אווטאָנאָמע געגנט, yidishe avtonome gegnt), or Birobidjan (actually the name of the main city), is a subject of the Russian Federation located in Siberia (Russian Far East), bordering China.
It is often called, in French only, Birobidjan, after its capital.This oblast was founded on Stalin's initiative on 7 May 1934, with Yiddish as its official language.
It attracted few Jews at its creation and even fewer at the creation of the State of Israel. It retained the status of a land of refuge for Jews from Russia. Article 65 of the Russian Constitution states that the Oblast is the only autonomous oblast in Russia.
Yet it was created to allow the Jewish populations of Central and Eastern Europe to escape their sad fate, the pogroms and the hostility of the local Slavic populations.
It was also created to allow them to finally end their status as usurers, to finally escape their social and economic ghetto...
What could be more in keeping with the pioneer spirit, with the morals of the Kibbutz, than these distant Asian lands to be fertilised by fruitful labour?
It is still today, despite its relative success, one of the two official Jewish territories in the world, the other being Israel.
So, to escape Islamic terrorism...
To put an end to the despoiling of the land, the colonisation and the ethnic cleansing of the peoples of the Holy Land...
Let us take up this slogan together: tomorrow the sun will shine... in Birobidjan!
