1. Candidates prepare what they want to and not what they have to.

Normally candidates focus on memorizing Current Affairs - Not a Sin, but obviously erroneous approach !

2. Candidates cram answers not develop skills.

It's not what you have to say that the board is interested in, it's how you say it what matters more !

3. Candidates are not aware of exact traits expected from them and also the ways to incorporate them.

Interview is about Bureaucratic traits and leadership abilities - easier said than done !

4. Candidates confidence takes a dip due to too many mock interviews and general suggestions - contrary at times.

UPSC is about confidence and presence of mind !

5. Candidates do not focus on Non-Verbal Cues and specifics.

Personality Test is the most imp hurdle that remains between one's dreams and reality now.

It's a 20-40 minutes event based upon the Candidate - I say it because some candidates have this ability to make the board fall for their pleasing arguments and soothing personality. No one, including me would like to spend time with an annoying person, this basic principle applies to Interview as well.

Then, comes the dimension of "Presence of Mind" - which is next single most important factor to ace Interview. Now this comes inherent to handful of people. Others must LEARN it.

The next big issue with the candidates is, even the best of minds are found to be lacking when it comes to giving EXPRESSION to their ideas. This again comes with "right practice" not just practice.

Here, my observation is mechanically giving Mocks at various places without learning won't help - you need to dwell deep into the aspects of your personality.

It's a negotiation, it then depends on you whether you negotiate from the "position of strength" or "position of weakness".

You need to mould your weakness into your strength, only then your years of hardwork could be justified.

Work - In right direction.
Move - 2 steps forward 1 step backward
Time - have this in mind
Mindset - of a Winner.

Interview Board Learning 1 -

If the board suspect that a candidate is lying, they pretend to believe him; and at times encourage him with nodding in agreement.

Psychology says then the candidate becomes bold , assured and lies more confidently and eventually unmasked.

Interview is more of a Psychological process, never underestimate it by seeing it in black and white.
