Jean de Brem, a nationalist activist assassinated by the Gaullist police, had written, for the German tune of "Ich hatt' einen Kameraden", this French poem, sung for those who have been called back to God.

1st verse
One evening in the struggle,,
Galloping to the unknown
We were on a ride,
You were my comrade
The one I loved the most (bis)

2nd verse
A horseman by bravado,
Of his most resolute
Carried me his shock,
It was you, my comrade
It was you who received it (bis)

3rd verse
I avenged the slash,
That this blow had earned you
But very late in the cold night,
I cried my comrade
Near his lying body (bis)

4th verse
I follow my gloomy road,
And I ride aimlessly
At the chance of an ambush,
I lost my comrade
I will never laugh again (bis)

5th verse
Prince listens to my ballad,
And that distraught call
Pray to the God of cavalcades,
To place my comrade
To the right of Jesus (bis)
